Every Year
This time last year I was sharing some very personal stories as a way to encourage women and men alike to feel as though they could as well. Being the survivor of Assault, of any kind, is nothing to be ashamed of. Nothing to hide. I urge people to confide in family and friends. Someone to be trusted. A fellow survivor. Professionals. Journaling can be very therapeutic.
I had a few women reach out to me. In confidence. I’m so proud of them for having the courage to share their experiences. I hope I gave them some peace. Knowing they are not alone. Only someone that has experienced assault knows what it’s like, to live with it daily.
The little four year old girl on the sofa, at a family party. The thirty one year old woman passed out on her boyfriend’s bed. The forty one year old celebrating her birthday one minute, then enduring inappropriate touching in a quiet aisle at her workplace…. And the forty two year old who discovered monsters and predators live close, even as their best female friend of many years.
That’s my story and there are so many more out there. So many people that live in darkness. If anyone ever needs an ear, feel free to reach out to me or….
